Ingredients:

  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes (or 2-3 cups fresh tomatoes, chopped)
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half for a lighter version)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh basil or parsley (for garnish)
  • Croutons or grilled cheese (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Sauté the onion and garlic: In a large pot, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
